Battle of the Sexes

Challenge:
To give a 1970s period piece a look relevant for today without abandoning the classic retro style that was made popular during that time. To then take that art direction and apply it across posters, social media, and fan art.

Solution:
We created an alternative poster series for Fox Searchlight film Battle of the Sexes with a mix of retro and modern style branding. Both Emma Stone and Steve Carell were hand-drawn in large scale with traditional pen and ink. The overall look and feel of the poster used abstract graphic elements (deconstructed from tennis balls, tennis strings, and a tennis court), which were then merged with bold colors and textures to resemble 70s film art.
